13 - A case of mucinous cystadenoma of appendix

Mucinous cystadenoma which is a benign tumour of appendix is caused by the dilatation of the lumen of appendix by mucinous secretion and is a rare disease . Tumoral proliferation of the mucine secreting epithelia dilates the appendiceal lumen by collection of mucine. Its importance comes from risk of spontaneous perforation and rupture during the operation which results in pseudomixoma peritonei. In our case the unusual large size of the lesion caused difficulty in diagnosis.
