1 - Augmentation cystoplasty

Augmentation cystoplasty was first described at the end of the 19th century, but it was popular for the small contacted tuberculous bladder, indications to this procedure are schistosomiasis, interstitial cystitis, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, detrusor instability, undiversions, various congenital conditions and correction of the lower urinary tract dysfunction before renal transplantation. Stomach, ileum and colon can he used as natural grafts. There are also synthetic grafts for bladder augmentation. Complications of this procedure are metabolic disturbance, diverticularization, mucus production, bacteriuria, stone formation, perforation and increased risk for carcinoma development. Augmentation cystoplasty is an attractive alternative for the minority failing conservative management.
