7 - Cause of chemical peritonitis: Antiseptic hand disinfectant solution

Peritonitis is a common complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Although peritonitis is generally due to infectious agents such as bacterial, viral and mycotic, have been reported that due to non-infectious agents such as intraperitoneal route is applied to various drugs. In our case, chemical peritonitis were found as a result of the accidentally intraperitoneal use of antiseptic hand disinfection solution that is not recommended use via oral, parenteral, intravenous or intraperitoneal. So far in humans, chemical peritonitis cases have not been reported that due to intraperitoneal use of alcohol-based antiseptic solutions even if accidentally.
